Portsmouth bike shops and cycling shops
The city of Portsmouth is ideally suited for cycling, it is mostly flat with very few hills and being situated on Portsea Island the city is fairly compact meaning most journeys around the city are quite short.
Using a bike for journeys around the city, instead of the car, brings many benefits such as less air pollution, it reduces carbon dioxide emissions, it provides good exercise improving physical and mental health and can be a sociable activity when cycling with others.
Alongside ongoing sea defence upgrades, cycle routes have also been improved at the same time. Most notably the route on the west coast of the island from Hilsea down to the Mountbatten Centre at Alexandra Park, where a shared pedestrian and cycle route has been implemented. Similar improvements are being made to the Eastern Road route.
Below is a map indicating the cycle routes around the perimeter of Portsea Island, details of cycle shops and suppliers, locations of Beryl Bike sharing services and the Brompton Bike Hire locations in the city.
