Portsmouth International Port, owned by Portsmouth City Council, first opened in 1976 and has continued to grow and develop ever since. Portsmouth has more cross channel ferry routes than any other UK ferry port.

Portsmouth Ferry Port serves ferries to France, Spain, the Channel Islands as well as cruise ships. Portsmouth is the second largest passenger ferry terminal in the UK, carrying approximately 2.7 million passengers per year only the port of Dover handles more.

Brittany Ferries run ferries to France docking at Caen, St Malo and Cherbourg and to Spain docking at Bilbao and Santander.

Condor Ferries run ferries to the Channel Islands docking at Guernsey and Jersey from Portsmouth.

Portsmouth International Port is easily accessible from the motorway network, there is a dedicated exit from the port onto M275, giving excellent access to the M27, M3, A34, M4 and A3(M) via the Hindhead tunnel.

Whilst Condor was originally founded in 1964, their roots, however, can be traced back to soon after the Second World War, when they started operating between France and the Channel Islands.
In 1985, Condor's first service linking the Islands with the UK was launched and today, they provide year-round, lifeline freight and passenger services, connecting Jersey, Guernsey, Portsmouth and Poole in the UK and the French ports of St Malo and Cherbourg.
Each year, Condor carry just under 1 million passengers, 200,000 passenger vehicles and 65,000 freight trailers across their network on a mixed fleet of high-speed catamarans and conventional vessels.

Portsmouth International Port Terminal

Portsmouth Ferry Port's terminal building, part of a £16.5 million investment at Portsmouth Port. The 2,700 square metre building resembles a modern airport building and houses much improved facilities for ferry and cruise ship passengers. The facilities include,

  • Baby change room and breastfeeding area
  • Cafe serving fresh meals, snacks and drinks 06:00-22:30
  • Travel / souvenir shop
  • Free and payable Wi-Fi options
  • Payphones and mobile charging points (numerous power cables for various models are available). Fees applicable
  • Ferry company ticket offices
  • Facilities for cruise ship passengers

Cutting edge environmental features have been incorporated into the terminal building, it is the first public building in the country to use a sea water-source heat pump system using energy from the sea to heat and cool the building.

Sea water is also used to flush the toilets helping to reduce the fresh water consumption. Windcatchers are built into the roof to provide natural ventilation of the buildings interior.

A 24-hour, multi-storey car park at Portsmouth Continental Ferry Port provides 516 passenger parking spaces. The pay-on-foot facility is well lit and incorporates the latest automated parking technology and CCTV cameras.

National Express coach services drop off and pick up in the Ferry Port.

Rail services via Portsmouth and Southsea Station or Portsmouth Harbour Station can be reached from Portsmouth Ferry Port either by shuttle bus which operates in peak season, or by taxi or minibus.
