WINCHESTER SCIENCE CENTRE AND PLANETARIUM
Winchester Science Centre is home to the UK's largest planetarium and has over 100 hands-on exciting science
exhibits, it is a great place for a family day out. Just outside of Winchester, the Science Centre is approximately 30 miles from Portsmouth.
The largest Planetarium in the UK was opened at Winchester Science Centre in March 2008. It can seat 176 people and has a huge domed screen and state of the art digital projection which makes you feel you are travelling amongst the planets and stars. Depending on the show you can fly through the solar system, visit a black hole, or find out what you can see in the sky tonight. There is a small additional charge for the planetarium, not covered by the entry ticket.
Winchester Science Centre is administered by the educational charity, The Hampshire Technology Centre Trust Ltd, with the specific purpose of promoting the knowledge and understanding of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
The stimulating, fun exhibition area, consists of a wide range of hands-on interactive exhibits which encourage children to explore STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths), explaining the principles of science and technology and their applications in industry and the home.
Winchester Science Centre is an all-weather, under cover destination, has easy access from M3, free parking, cafe, picnic area and shop.
At the weekends there are free Live Science Shows (these can be booked FREE with general admission)these involve live demonstrations and audience participation.
The centre is also available for corporate hire, birthday parties, special events and holiday activities. The Science Shop offers a wide variety of unusual and thought provoking STEM gifts.
