RACE FOR LIFE - TEAM QUIREPACE.
A team of ladies from Quirepace Ltd in Gosport are going to be participating in the 2010 Race for Life to help raise awareness and some much needed cash for Cancer Research UK.
Quirepace supplies and installs pneumatic tube transport systems for use in healthcare, cash handling and industrial applications, the ladies all work at the Gosport site in Harbour Road and have been supported by their bosses, see entry below.
The team of seven consists of Debby Gibbs, Ruth Hughes, Rose Montiel, Tanya Morgan, Tracey Saunders, Vicki Watts and Suzanne Woollam. We asked them about their motivation,
sponsorship target and training, or maybe lack of it! Here's what they had to say:
My name is Debby Gibbs and I will be 50 years of age four days after the event, I am the smallest of the bunch, being just five foot tall, (or short, as the case may be!)
I currently live with my partner of nine years, Richard, we have two grown-up children between us and a grandaughter, Christina, who will be 10 this year.
I have never done anything like this before and decided I needed to HIT 50 running, on a personal level I'm hoping to raise in excess of £100, collectively it would be fantastic to achieve upwards of £1k.
I try to keep fit by walking to work, which is 5 kilometers, using my cross trainer daily and I recently brought a hoola-hoop, which is great fun!
I can walk 5k in approximately 55 minutes, so I am hoping to 'shave' at least 10 minutes of that for this event, realistically I'm looking at a finish time of between 35 - 45 minutes!
Our company, 'Quirepace Ltd' is situated in Gosport and we manufacture, sell, repair and maintain air moving equipment, such as document and sample conveyancing and also industrial vacuum cleaners. Quirepace have sponsored us by paying the registration fees necessary for us to take part, so a BIG thank-you to our bosses Les Jury and Martin Chewter for their support!!
So come on then why not help me to help you? There are so few people out there that haven't been affected at some stage, either directly or indirectly, by this dreadful disease, that any monies pledged will eventually help YOU!!
Thanks for reading this. Here is a link to my on-line sponsorship page, which is currently (at time of writing) empty, boo-hoo!!

Ruth Hughes....I'll be happy with anything over £100 and I'd like to finish somewhere in the middle of the throngs.
I'll be running (walking fast) maybe a little jog here and there for my Mum, Sarah's Mum and my bestest friend.
Of course little Tanny keeps me motivated in the keep fit quest, if you would like sponsor me, please follow this link.
Rose Montiel - Personally, I am hoping to raise £50 - £60.
I am doing it because I believe it is a very worthy cause and it is about time I got involved, got off my butt, take positive action and give something back to help in the future. I am also doing this in memory of my dad and my brother.
I have no idea how long it will take me although I am hoping that if the group are walking together we will all get to the line in good time.
As for training.............well I need to up my walking times and speed, so much still to be done in the 7 weeks to "D Day".
Tanya Morgan, fortunately I was very lucky that I survived this terrible disease, but sadly two of my very close friends both lost their mothers to Cancer and I recently lost my Grandad.
So hopefully by doing The Race For Life we can all raise enough money between us for those that need it now. To sponsor Tanya follow this link.
Tracey Saunders says, I am hoping that I can raise at least the £100 hopefully more.
Hoping that it should take me and little sis less than an hour (she did it in 53 mins last year) as for training ha ha ! mmmm .... none as of yet but will be with Vicki walking and swimming.
As for reason well .. thought it was about time that I gave back, if it hadn't been for the research I may not be hear today , and my little contribution may help someone else in the future.
You can sponsor Tracey online here.
......my name is Vicki Watts, I am hoping to raise around £150.
Hopefully this is my link if I have done it right !!!
I am doing the race for life as I think it is such an important cause it touches so many lives, I am doing it for all the amazing people who have beaten cancer, my wonderful sister
and my Dad, for all the courageous people battling cancer at the moment, my friends nephew Michael, and for those who sadly couldn't beat it.
Last year I did it in an hour, (this was walking as I am not a runner....look like Pheobe out of friends!!) I would like to beat it this time....my training hmmm, I am trying to get in shape walking and playing netball!!
Suzanne Woollam - this will be my 3rd Race for Life and I love the whole atmosphere. As you walk/run the course and read the inspiring thoughts on the backs of all the women taking part you can't help but be moved by this experience.
My mother in law Shirley Woollam died of Brain Cancer 18 months ago and I am doing this for her.
I hope to raise about £100 and will hopefully run it if I can. To sponsor me please follow this link, thank you.
