PORTSMOUTH CHIMNEY SWEEPS

When using an open fire or wood burning stove, it is extremely important that the chimney or flue is maintained in good working order and cleaned on a regular basis.

During burning potentially harmful gases as well as smoke are allowed to escape up the chimney. With regular usage soot and tar begin to accumulate on the interior walls of the chimney, if these are not removed by regular cleaning, the flue can become restricted or blocked.

This will effect the efficiency of the burning process and could allow harmful gases to enter your room, as they cannot escape up the chimney....(continued below).

In some cases the deposits of soot and tar can catch fire in the chimney itself, this is known as a chimney fire and can cause cracks in your chimney lining and structural damage to your chimney and surrounding structure.

To prevent these problems and to enable your fire to burn efficiently, always have your chimney cleaned and inspected regularly.

Two organisations carry out regulation and training for chimney sweeps, the Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps and NACS The National Association of Chimney Sweeps.
